2017 BMW 5-Series rendering, interior

Recently, some spy photographs of the new 2017 BMW 5-Series being tested were shown to us. These photographs were very impressive. This new offering from BMW goes up against some pretty stiff competition in the form of the new Jaguar XF and the latest Mercedes E-Class. The new 2017 BMW 5-Series will get an improved cabin and since buyers expect more luxury features in their cars, the German automaker will make the necessary changes like reducing the number of traditional style buttons and making the dashboard more clutter-free.

2017 BMW 5-Series: Redesign Exterior and Interior

The cabin gets the latest technological features including being able to easily switch from digital mode to traditional analogue mode. There is a chance that BMW will install a display, which will be mounted in the middle – just like the display on the current model. This display will allow the driver to keep control over all the various systems of the vehicle through a special proprietary interface.

When you look at the spy pictures you get the impression that the German automaker is not going to make too many radical changes to its mid-size vehicle. Instead, it plans to keep the overall looks of the car unchanged. Thus, we will see the traditional grille and the headlights will be designed to make the vehicle look very aggressive. The headlights will also make use of matrix LED technology that will enable the driver to make full use of the full beam without at the same time blinding oncoming cars.

On the outside, the sides of 2017 BMW 5-Series have been smoothed out and this makes the car look more restrained. However, the automaker continues to use the same design feature that it has used over the years on other BMW vehicles. To make the 5-Series look sporty the automaker has swept up the edges of the boot lid and at the back it has installed smaller taillights that make use of attractive LED designs.

The most important change to the 2017 BMW 5-Series is the use of lightweight material in the construction of the body. The new 5-Series body is built out of very tough steel as well as carbon fiber-reinforced plastic. The carmaker has made full use of its expertise in making lightweight models like the i3 and the i8 electric cum hybrid models as well as the soon to be released 7 Series. The new 2017 BMW 5-Series will weigh 100 kilograms less than the earlier model and will also be stronger than the earlier model.

2017 BMW 5-Series: Engine Specs

Under the hood, BMW plans to stick with its familiar 4 and 6 cylinder petrol and diesel engines. In addition, the carmaker also plans to add a couple of other engine options. A 2.0-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine that works along with an electric motor will probably power the hybrid model and together they are able to produce approximately 250 horsepower. While driving on the electric power the car can travel for up to 20 miles which is just right for city driving. BMW may also offer a four-wheel drive variant that will be powered by a 4.4-liter turbo V8 engine that can produce an amazing 600 horsepower.
