2016 Opel Astra redesign

As Opel models continue to rise back to profitability, the automaker is preparing to release a redesigned and introduce new models with a range of new engines. Among these upcoming models from Opel is the Opel Astra. Opel Astra is a small family car whose presence has been felt since 1991. This model is known by different names in different markets, For instance in Europe, it is a member of the C segment while in U.K, it goes by the name Vauxhall Astra and in China, they refer to it as Buick Excelle. In New Zealand and Australia, the same Opel Astra is called Holden Astra. 2016 Opel Astra is set to be revised based on the new D2XX compact car platform. Its production is expected to take place in Ellesmere Port, UK or in Gliwice, Poland.

This next generation model which is scheduled to be released in 2016 will draw cues from the Monza concept. The new platform will enable this machine to lose some body weight thus enhancing its performance. With this platform, there will be extensive use of light weight materials which will cause a massive weight reduction of about 100 pounds. Its automakers want to give it a more premium appearance. In fact, Opel Astra fans are expecting to see some intricate details in its design which includes an aluminum strip running from its roof down to its tail lights. The 2016 Opel Astra will also be larger than the current model with a slightly higher body aimed at making the auto’s interior space bigger and quite comfy. Newly designed front and rear bumpers shall be installed. Furthermore, there will be a wide variety of its exterior body color. This new 2016 Opel Astra will also features redesigned head lights as well as tail lights with LED technology. Again, the new model will be available in a variety of body styles including a three door and a five door hatchback.

Inward, this new 2016 Opel Astra will be upholstered using premium materials. The 2016 Opel Astra will also be filled with fine and luxurious entertainment features suitable to a family car. Some of these features include Mylink touch-screen featuring entertainment and navigation controls, air conditioning, heated front seats and reclinable front and rear seats. As for the safety features, they include lane departure warning, tire pressure monitoring, blind spot assist and forward collision among others.

This new model’s power will be derived from General Motor’s next generation Ecotec family. The engines comprise of three and four cylinder gasoline and diesel units. Under its hood, a newly developed six speed manual transmission gearbox will be installed and matched with the available engine, either the gasoline or the diesel unit. It is anticipated that a 1.6 liter inline-4 CDTI diesel generating between 110 and 136 hp and between 220 and 236 lb-ft of torque will be made available. A more powerful OPC model is also expected and it could be a 2.0 liter unit with a total output of 284 horsepower and 295 pounds-feet of torque.

This redesigned 2016 Opel Astra might be introduced to the auto world late in 2015 or beginning of 2016. There is a strong possibility for it to debut during the September Frankfurt Auto Show. The hatchback model is likely to make the first appearance while the sedan, the coupe and the wagon will follow later on. Its base price is speculated to be around $ 27 000.
