An all new Honda HR-V was unveiled during the 2014 Los Angeles International Auto Show. That model blended a coupe’s styling, space, toughness and utility, and it was a representation of the highly expected 2016 Honda HR-V. This new Honda will enter in the crossover market segment with dynamic but refined style, performance, high fuel economy and unmatched interior roominess and cabin usefulness. Rather than using the shrunken CR-V chassis, the new Honda HR-V will be based on the enlarged version of the Fit which is a bit short, wider and roomier especially on the rear seats. This chassis is 10 inches shorter in length, 1.5 inches shorter in heights and 2 inches narrower than the CR-V, making the 2016 Honda HR-V the car of choice for those who need more passenger space.
2016 HONDA HR-V: REDESIGN EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR
Among all the vehicles in its segment, 2016 Honda HR-V gets the most spacious and well utilized cabin thanks to its all new global platform. The unique platform design incorporates a center mounted fuel tank with reconfigurable second row seats. Its cabin features a seating capacity of 100.1 cu. ft and cargo modes of about 58.8 cu. ft with its second row seats. It comes with a wheelbase of 102.8 inches, length of 169.1 inches, width of 60.8 inches, and height of 63.2 inches. It can accommodate five adult passengers seated comfortably. This new model comes with a great energetic appearance and a solid stance facilitated by its coupe-like cabin shape and also complimented by its distinctive side contours.
It also features a sporty and sophisticated interior with an airy cockpit with plenty of soft touch materials and high class detailing. This is enforced by the presence of clear cut bezels, first class brushed chrome with piano black highlights and stylish stitch lines. Again, this model has a three meter long driver instrumental panel which features Honda’s ECO Assist feature and a speedometer which illuminates form blue to green depending on the car’s acceleration. This new 2016 Honda HR-V comes in three trims namely LX, EX and EX-L. All trims come with standard features which include alloy wheels, a rear view camera, Pandora Internet radio and a number power controlled accessories. However, there are some optional features which are only available in the higher trims and they include satellite radio, seven Inch touch screen display, leather upholstery, keyless ignition, heated front seats, a fully integrated navigation system and a sunroof.
In trying to maintain safety in the new model, Honda has offered a number of safety features in this model. They include front side airbags, stability and traction control features, lane watch blind sport warning system, four channel anti-lock brakes with brake assist and hill start assist, side airbags and tire pressure monitoring system among others.
2016 HONDA HR-V: ENGINE SPECS
2016 Honda HR-V is likely to borrow Civics’ 1.8 liter SOHC four-cylinder 16-valve engine. This engine generates about 138 horsepower and 127 pounds-feet of torque. It is expected to be paired with either a continuously variable transmission or a six speed manual transmission and two wheel drive or all wheel drive modes.
2016 Honda HR-V: Release Date, Price and Competitors
2016 Honda HR-V will be launched in spring of 2015. As for the prices, they are expected to begin at $ 20 000 for the LX trim and the higher trims will cost about $ 24 500. The 2016 Honda HR-V will become a prime contender against models like Kia Soul and Nissan Juke as well as other small SUV’s like Mazda CX-3 and Jeep Renegade.
